Being great admirers of the German Shepherd Dog, we decided in the early 90's
to start our own breeding program. Why?
For us it was a challenge to breed a German Shepherd Dog , operating within the parameters of the breed standard and then passing our even more stringent scrutiny. A challenge to breed first for the noble character that makes the German Shepherd Dog unique, while maintaining optimal structure. The decision-making for our kennel name was not an easy task. We wanted a name which expressed exactly what our commitment to the German Shepherd Dog meant. "VAN ADELRIK" ..... a Dutch term, expressing "NOBILITY, THE BIRTHRIGHT OF FINE BREEDING".
Research of the bloodlines is the foundation upon which a great
breeding program is built and a process we pride ourselves in. We have access
to the best bloodlines Europe has to offer. We control the factors that we
can: best breeding pair, optimal veterinary care, premium nutrition, scrupulus
enviromental controls and daily hands on involvement in the critical first
stages of development. This cannot be mass produced and we are not in that
market. Evaluation of our results begins with the birth of the puppy but does
not end when the puppy leaves our kennel. To the extent that is possible we
follow every dog we breed.
How did his character develop? structure? working ability? health? If you don't
monitor your long term results you don't know what you're breeding! During
a decade of breeding and followup we have been able to craft a breeding program
based not upon fad, fashion or fantasy but on verifiable fact. We research,
control, evaluate and modify, and always will.
With our breeding program we want to make a contribution to a
better breed and not just to multiply this famous breed.
Looking back, we have been able to sell our dogs to people in
Holland as well as abroad who are satisfied with our breedings. Our dogs have
been used for different purposes.
From the housepet ( because of the fact
that these people always have liked the German Shepherd Dog because of it's
character and expression ) to the working dog ( doing what they were
bred for! ).
If you are a working dog person in the United States, we will supply references that include names of trainers you will undoubtely recognize. Maybe they are onto something you should know about.
With our site we hope to give a clear vision of our goals in our breeding program. Also we hope to give a clear view of the German Shepherd Dog as working dog.
